GOAT was created by struggling artists and for struggling artists. It was created to give people a chance; a chance to actually be successful, to be recognized and rewarded for the years of hard work they put into their craft. GOAT is for the strivers, the dyed-in-the-wool believers. The dream chasers who refuse to “get the picture”. The road to success is long and full of doubt. But finally, there is hope for us.
GOAT is not just a mobile app that hosts tournaments. GOAT is an invention that will change the face of the earth. No longer will talentless people be placed upon the throne of greatness simply because they had a cousin who once dated a man that delivered mail to Madonna’s uncle. No longer will people of talent be denied the chance to prove their abilities to the world. GOAT is a machine. It has no cousin. It doesn’t care who you know or don’t know.
GOAT is only concerned with one thing, and one thing only…
Black Cross: An intelligent, musically intuitive, independent Hip-Hop group based out of West Palm Beach, Florida. They established themselves by releasing theBlack Cross EP on 12/13/2014, before releasing the preeminent The Rule of Two mixtape exactly one year later, on 12/13/2015. Currently, the core of Black Cross consists of the unabashed Hail Medik and the mysterious Wes VanStyles.
Wes VanStyles: also known as Gnarly & Young Voorhees, is originally from Reading, PA but now resides in West Palm Beach, FL . In this small Pennsylvanian city, crime ran rampant. Fortunately for Wes, he escaped the dead-end life of crime by moving to south Florida in his late teens.
When he arrived to the Sunshine State, he began rapping on a bet from an old Reading, PA friend. Though Wes listened to hip hop his whole life, he had never attempted to write or rap with much conviction. But once he did, he found that he thoroughly enjoyed it. Wes was first put on to some recording sessions with a man known as “Harry-O”. Harry showed Wes the ropes and Wes VanStyles, AKA Gnarly, AKA Young Voorhees, still seeks advice from Harry-O to this day.
Wes kept at it and met Randall Bryce, AKA Hail Medik, at an internship where he discovered Randall’s music-producing talents. Through the next few years Randall and Wes formed a musical partnership which was joined shortly thereafter by The Real B.i., Hail Medik (Randall) and Gnarly (Wes) soon released their first collaborative piece, the introductory Black Cross EP featuring The Real B.i., R.A.A.S., and Kooley C.
Hail Medik: Representing Montclair, NJ, Randall Bryce is a self-described “musical juggernaut” with an ambitious and undoubtedly bright future. The offspring of two musicians, his ability and passion for music are his birthright. He began composing beats at the age of 14 and began rapping after being challenged by another rapper on an online Hip-Hop battle message board. The competitive Hip-Hop environment combined with his diverse upbringing in New Jersey helped build the foundation for what would eventually become his Hip-Hop alter-ego, Hail Medik.
A defining moment for Randall’s creative development occurred in 2005, at the age of 17 when he moved to West Palm Beach, FL with his dad. It was living with his musician father (R.A.A.S) where he discovered early Hip-Hop influences and honed his technique for composing beats. His father had always been an avid freestyler and would encourage the young artist to freestyle every chance he could. Through their time living together, Hail Medik developed a unique identity and transitioned from Hip-Hop fan, to Hip-Hop ARTIST.
Hail Medik met The Real B.i. in 2007 through mutual friends and they bonded over a shared love for music and video games. Recognizing and admiring each other’s skills, the pair started writing Hip-Hop tracks together, envisioning a joint mixtape called “Video Game”. Unwittingly, the duo had begun to set the framework for Black Cross. It was in 2012 that Hail met Gnarly, who would prove to be the motivating piece that completed the Black Cross puzzle. Gnarly’s methodical work ethic and insatiable ambition helped the group realize and pursue its full potential.
Their combination of differing styles, confidence, and lyrical ability set them apart from the vast majority of current rappers who attempt to benefit from leveraging a gimmick. Black Cross is not a group of rappers, it’s a group of Hip-Hop ARTISTS with a lot of passion and a lot to prove.
